Dr. Alane Laws-Barker

Dr. Alane Laws-Barker is an accomplished physician leader, educator, and community advocate with more than 25 years of experience in women’s health, healthcare administration, and community engagement. She currently serves as Vice Chair of the Department of OB/GYN at University of Michigan Health–Sparrow and is a Clinical Associate Professor at Michigan State University College of Human Medicine.Dr. Laws-Barker earned her undergraduate degree from the University of California, Davis, her medical degree from Michigan State University College of Human Medicine, and her MBA for Physician Leaders from the Indiana University Kelley School of Business. Throughout her career, she has held numerous leadership roles focused on improving healthcare access, quality, and community outcomes. She has served on finance, policy, and advisory committees at the local and state level and is deeply committed to initiatives that strengthen neighborhoods, promote economic opportunity, and support long-term community development. In addition to her healthcare leadership, Dr. Laws-Barker is the founder of Melanated Business Alliance, a nonprofit organization focused on entrepreneurship, financial literacy, and youth empowerment. She is passionate about creating stronger communities through education, mentorship, and strategic investment.Dr. Laws-Barker is honored to serve in a director role with the land bank group and looks forward to contributing her experience in leadership, community development, and collaborative problem-solving to support meaningful growth and revitalization efforts.
